Volunteer
One of the most rewarding ways
to help Save Our Stray's rescued animals is to volunteer your time and
talents. We are always in need of people to help with a variety of
activities:
- Feed and clean litter boxes and cages at the Sanctuary and the Thrift
Store in Cahaba Heights (there is a special need for this help, as it must be done on a daily basis.
- Foster an animal or feed nursing baby kittens without a mother until the are ready for adoption.
- Adoption counselor and screening.
- Coordinate and/or assist with mobile adoptions.
- Visit prospective homes prior to and after adoption.
- Play with the cats and kittens housed at S.O.S. facilities to provide affection and grooming in order to prepare them for their transition into a permanent home.
- Capture or trap homeless animals.
- Emergency response for injured animals.
- Coordinate and/or assist with fundraising or other special events.
- Manage a feral cat colony (requires a daily commitment rain or shine)
- Assist with feeding feral cat colonies.
- Maintain a donation box or jar at a grocery store or other business.
- Assist with returning phone calls.
- Provide maintenance to S.O.S. facilities, including painting, carpentry, repairs, plumbing, electrical work or equipment repair.
- Provide transportation for animals that must be transferred to a different
location or taken to a veterinarian for medical attention.
- Assist with photography of S.O.S rescues to be featured on it's website or
on adoption flyers, donation boxes and in the newsletter.
- Offer your back yard as a safe haven for unsocialized or feral cats on a permanent basis, feed them daily, interact with them when possible in an effort to socialize those who might be suitable for future adoption and alert S.O.S of any health concerns should they arise.
Orientation is required for all S.O.S volunteers and certain volunteer positions require special training with a seasoned volunteer.
